Here we are before dining just before miss dearest leaves for England. I had a lovely friend who was a vegetarian she too also left to live in England. She constantly told me about a vegetarian yum cha place near hyde park.
Our star is running late and got lost. The restaurant is a little hard to find. Best way to describe it is that it behide St Mary’s Cathedral Church and to take the staircase on the right. Most portions come up in three which is really annoying as the usual yum cha number is four. There is a few dishes that has 4 servings. You will find the dishes to be pricey but take note it probably isn’t easy to replicate yum cha meat dishes. We decided to to sit outside which was the onset of constant bother of birds (go away!).

BBQ pork buns, taste exactly like the real thing! Given one real version vs this version, I think I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

Spinach Dumplings which I found very bland in taste.

Beetroot Dumplings, look at that vibrant colour! We just wanted to order it due to the colour however to our disappointment the ginger was too overpowering to this dish. I could barely taste the beetroot.

Cheong fun with fake prawns. You must have yum cha with cheong fun!

I forgot what this was (help girls?). I just remember the outside was coated with shredded coconut.

Bean curd rolls, there is a lot of vinegar in this dish which is something I don’t mind bcause I love vinegar!

Sticky rice, a little bland and average for me

Siu mai, there was peas, carrots, mushrooms in this. Didn’t really taste like siu mai but it was still tasty!

Taro “fish” cakes. This dish was very crispy and yummy in taste.

It is dessert time! Orange Sago is probably the highlight for me.

Warm Sago, the word warm definitely describes it well. The top layer had a skin building which was the best part of the dessert.

This is what happens when you stick 4 spoons in the warm Sago.

Hey you know this place was named one of the top 10 yum chas in Sydney on SMH last week?!
I forgot what that dish is with the shredded coconut too
Maybe potato?! hehe I’ve terrible memory – I don’t even remember how much we paid. Must write things down next time like Betty!
of course viv~im just like, so organised
the dish with the coconut is a potato filling and we ordered:
- 10 medium dishes @ 6.5 = 65
- 1 large dish @ 7.5 = 7.5
- tea for 4 @ 4.3 ea = 17.2
total = 89.7
so around 22.4 pp
*brushes shoulders for my great mathematical skills*
pffffftttt…that’s just like…showing off! lol. hahha
wow the tea is expensive! hehe. think we should do a non-vege yum cha next time!
zomg viv to organise now

The food looks really interesting and different to most yum cha places I’ve been to! Love the colour of the beetroot dumplingss! Such a shame they didn’t taste quite as good as they looked! And the taro fish cakes look really really yummy!
