Grasshopper’s Feast

This gorgeous cafe was stumbled across by accident. Mr himself and I were extremely hungry and really needed somewhere to have brunch after running errands all morning. We originally planned to stop by Petaling Street to grab a Singapore breakfast. Sadly they don’t open early anymore and have dropped providing breakfast. I wonder why they still plastered the breakfast posters inside, such false advertising. However it was a blessing in disguise stumbling upon this cafe situated in “the Causeway” off little Collins Street and Bourke Street. Luckily, when we arrived we were given the last table outside.

I am not sure how new this place since I haven’t heard anything about it nor have I came across it through blogs. The breakfast menu had quite a number of options. I had my eyes over the zucchini and corn fritters. Corn fritters are my weakness and when I see them on a menu I would always order them.

Large coffee, so massive!

Earl grey Tea, love the little milk bottle.

Zucchini and corn fritters with poached egg, bacon and avocado salsa. When my fritters arrived, the first thing I noticed is how much they look more like muffins. I was highly concerned, I’m used to the flat fritters. Upon biting they didn’t disappoint. It was so fluffy. The texture was close to a muffin but is amazingly soft on the inside. Paired with the egg, bacon and salsa it was delicious on three different levels.

3 egg terracotta pot with tomato chutney, chorizo, spinach and goats cheese. I was eyeing this on the menu as well but luckily Mr had decided to ordered them. The eggs in pot are slightly spiced and perfectly warm on a cold day, it was a reminiscent of shakshouka. It was a bit of a small serving for the Mr but he happily gobbled it up in minutes, with me stealing every bit when he wasn’t looking.

On the second visit I was eyeing the potato rosti and the feta eggs. Mr, on this occasion has decided to order the zucchini and corn fritters, since he was jealous of my meal last time. I opp-ed for the feta eggs and made a note to order the potato rosti on my next visit. When I saw a waitress float pass with the potato rosti, my eyes glared with envy. I wished I order it in the first place.

The eggs with feta. spinach & dukkah was moreish, lack a bit of feta but I think the combination with small bits of feta worked fine. If there was more feta it probably dominate the flavouring of the eggs. It was tasty but couldn’t help but wonder if I would be happier if I’d ordered the Potato Rosti. It’s a must order for our next visit.

I love this cafe, it’s such a perfect breakfast gem. I haven’t been to many breakfast cafes in Melbourne yet but I am highly impressed and definitely will return for many more visits. The staff are extremely lovely on both occasions as well.

Readers, do you love a restaurant that offers all day breakfast?

Lovely Surroundings

The restaurant is very cosy inside and feels like a cottage.

Img_5412
Wagyu Sirloin picked beetroots, onion Jam with sourdough. Love the onion Jam and the wagyu is such a good combo! Would of preferred this without the bread but.

Img_5413
Homemade Linguine with prawns, chilli , baby tomatoes, chorizo and topped with sliced parmesan. Nothing beats homemade pasta very droolworthy.

Australian Regional Food Store & Cafe

A trip to Hunters Valley started out at 11am leaving Sydney. We popped by The Australian regional food store and cafe once we arrived. The cafe is overlooking bushland and has a large range of food items available (hello cheese!). Next door is the Small winemakers centre.

Food took a while to come up at very least more then 40 minutes. It was worth the wait. We wanted to order fries but was a little sadden that fries isn’t available going for the next best thing roast Potatoes.

Img_5391
Market fish seared and served with pan juices and garden salad. The market fish ended up being salmon. I normally preferred my salmon sashimi or smoked but this version was absolutely delicious!

Img_5389
Although there wasn’t any fries we ordered a bowl of roast potatoes. These are lovely and crispy. Also probably the best roast potatoes I ever tasted!

Img_5387
Spanish chorizo penne tossed with housemade rich tomato and basil sauce with crumbled feta. I had to order this because chorizo + pasta = win! Sadden when I received this there is olives!. Despite the olives I still enjoyed this dish very much.

I love this cafe and would returned for another visit on the next trip to hunters valley!

Jet Cafe Bar

Jet Cafe bar is probably one of the few cafes that I often returned to. Each time I had great service and the food is always awesome :D !

Hot chocolates are so warming on a cold night. This version has a hint of baileys in it.

Img_4547
Meatlovers Pizza. The bast is extremely thin which is perfect because I love thin crust. You can’t go wrong with a meatlovers pizza!

Img_4550
Apple crumble. Didn’t managed to steal a piece as I was full but was given the thumbs up!

Blueberry cheesecake. Lovely and not too sweet!

I spot a line forming!

Img_4347
“Nice One Louis”. Potato Frittata, sautéed mushrooms, taleggio, bitter leaf salad. Ordered this on recommendation from the waiter. Yum YUM!

Img_4345
Why hello there yummy goodness.

Img_4344
“Bright Star. Casarecce, sugar cured salmon, asparagus, sorrel. Except they ran out of salmon so prosciutto was used. This was pretty good too.

Img_4350
“Nonna’s Panino”. Sourdough, Quattro Stelle prosciutto, mozzarella. Opps i forgot to steal a bite so I wasn’t sure how it was but was given a thumbs up!

Img_4367
The glass on the left had a mixture of tapioca and coconut milk pairings. One the right was a ice cream (rose?) with a rose macaron. Found this a bit unusual and strange but it wasn’t too bad.

Img_4372
Fondant and an ice cream I forgot what flavour (think it was peanut?). I think I need to update right after I visit restaurants rather then wait for weeks later. Nonetheless I remember liking this dessert!

Img_4390
Stopped by the patisserie and brought these last 5 flavours that was still in stock. I’m afraid I can’t remember much of the flavours but I recalled an caramelised hommus, olive (YUCK because i hate olives), pumpkin orange risotto (MY fav).. i forgot the other two. All were yummy and delicious except for the olive one because of reasons I just mentioned. Im pretty sure olive lovers will like it nonetheless :D

Was great to meet fellow food bloggers yesterday at the food bloggers meet yesterday :D . Big thanks to suze and nuffnang! Happy birthday Susan!
