Melaka (Malacca), Malaysia

After Singapore we continued to Malaysia. We took a bus from Singapore and enter through Malaysia at the Tuas checkpoint. Melaka is about 4.5 hours away by Bus. There is so much cultural history in Melaka dating back since the 15th Century. I ate a lot in Melaka but I realise majority of the photos I taken didn’t turn out so great (due to an unmentionable brand of a p&s camera ahem not canon :P ). I also fell in love with a yummy wonton mee place where hunger owned me and I completely forgotten about taking pictures.

Restoran Capitol Satay

Capitol Satay is probably the most famous place in Melaka for the Satay Celup. If you haven’t heard of Satay Celup just think of it as Satay hotpot/steamboat. When we arrived there is already a line and it’s only a bit after 5:30pm. We waited for about 40 minutes before seated. Food is charged by each stick, one stick is 0.80 Ringgits. There is also some small plates which consists of century eggs and other items, I believe it can go up to 2.50 ringgits. I have a very weak tolerance to spice and found the hotpot very spicy. Luckily Mr himself requested a cup of warm water for me to dip the sticks in before eating. I heard the restaurant has already been passed down to the 3rd generation. Mr himself also warned me “you might have to date the toilet but don’t worry it’s worth eating” how is that for reassurance.

The wait was very well worth it and it was probably the highlight of the Melaka trip. There is also moments where you get extra sticks placed on your table by the waitresses but they will only charge what you have eaten

The food was a bit average to me, nothing really stood out I’m afraid.

Singapore

This is my second time to Singapore. My first trip was when I was 13. So much has changed since my last visit, I barely recognise it. We stayed 4 nights in Singapore, so agenda for the next few days was to eat, shop and sleep!

We stayed at ibis Hotel at Bugis. Diagonally across the Sim Lim town (technology haven) and 5 minutes from Bugis MRT station. Around the corner from our hotel is Albert Centre (2 minutes), a hawker centre where majority of our eating took place. Most meals come under $3. Across the road from Albert centre and opposite bugis junction is the Bugis street market.

Taro cake was also part of that breakie

Raffles High Tea
One of my biggest regret was going to the high tea at Raffles Hotel. Such a big waste of money and I prefer the high tea back in Australia. The high tea is actually a buffet. The day we went the buffet was sweets and dim sum. I believe they rotate the non sweets in the buffet selection since my friend Miss V mentioned when she visited she had curry.

Long Beach Restaurant

A long drive was made to Long Beach restaurant on the east Coast for crab. There is also Long Beach restaurants closer to the city if you don’t want to travel too far.

Poh cheu at Queenstown
Mr Himself wanted ang ku kueh/kway specifically from a certain store in Queenstown. We took an MRT to Queenstown. Took a taxi to Queenstown shopping centre and walked across the road. We got lost for about 20 minutes until we found the place phewww. Ang ku kueh is cake made with rice flour on the outer layer and has a sweet filling inside.

and don’t forget to try Haagen daz! I never tried it before the trip.

Shopping in Singapore

Bugis Street market
Take a train to Bugis and it’s across the road from Bugis Junction. I miss this market, found my gorgeous sailorish skirt here. Beware of pickpockets in the street market, keep everything close to you. Overall this was my favourite place to shop in Singapore. Don’t forget to stop by and buy the Bak kwa from Bee Cheng Hiang.

Orchard Road
Mrt via Orchard. You need to stay at least one whole day here. Ion is a great place to shop with Sephora!

H&M on Orchard Road
H&m opened a few days before I am arrived. I was completely excited because I have never stepped inside a h&m store before. I was worried about the lines when we arrived. Luckily the line moved quick and I waited only 1 minute. I spend almost 3.5 hours there (I had to duck out for a toilet break :P if you must know). We had to line up twice in the dressing room and twice in the cashier, Mr himself bought more than me.

Sim Lim
For the boys and the technology lovers you must visit Sim Lim. There is about 6 levels of technology stores.

So many levels..

Vivocity
The largest shopping centre in Singapore. Need to catch the MRT to harbourfront. This is across from Sentosa and attracts a lot of tourists. I didn’t think it was worth much of visit besides having to stop by at Daiso.
