Taste of Sydney 2010

We are so glad for such lovely weather. The forecast has been saying possible showers but it ended up being nice and sunny!

Restaurant Balzac – Crispy wagyu beef with wild mushroom and truffle foam. I was surprised this came in a a spring roll form nevertheless it was so yummy! I wanted seconds and thirds!

Guillaume at Bennelong – mini sandwich with blue swimmer crab meat and coriander mayonnaise. I found this a bit boring, it taste not bad but nothing stood out.

Bird Cow Fish – Braised cape grim beef cheek and glazed onion pie in sour cream and puff pastry case, red wine veal jus. Really like the puff pastry with this dish!

Guillaume at Bennelong – Wagyu Beef dacbe with paris mash. Very very tender beef with the melt in your mouth feeling! Not sure what paris mash meant but it was a damn good mash.

Four in hand = 12 hour slow cooked lamb shoulder; minted crushed peas and feta dressing. This was a bit of a let down. I found the lamb bit bland, it probably needed sauce. Not as tender as I thought it would be.

Pilu at freshwater – suckling pig panino with apple, mustard and rocket served with sonoma sourdough. The bread was a bit tough but I found the bread made a great pairing with pig anyways :). The dish worked very well with each flavour.

Jonah’s at whale beach – vanilla panna cotta with lavender honey and fresh pomegranate. I remember ChocolateSuze’s video from last year and couldn’t help myself but wobble this baby around the same :). I think this was my favourite dish it had a good level of sweetness. I love the lavender honey as well. I could eat so many of these.

Flying fish – Sri Lankan love cake with rasberry tea coulis. This was slightly nutty it kinda reminded me baklava and something I can’t put my finger to it.

Taste of sydney is held from 11th to 14th of March at Centennial Parklands.

Sydney Food and Wine Fair 2009

The weather has been gloomy lately but it was lovely on the day of the Sydney Food and Wine fair. Food and beverages are purchased with coupons. Each coupon is $3. Generally mains are 4 coupons, entrees/cocktails are 3 coupons and wine/beer is 2 coupons. All funds goes towards AIDS Trust of Australia.

Our coupons. Coupons are sold in sets of “5’s”. We brought $45 worth of coupons.

Line for ben and jerrys ice cream.

Strawberry cheesecake and fudge brownie ice cream from Ben and Jerry’s! Yay for free ice cream. Both are yummy but I prefer the fudge brownie.

Sundried chicken and pasta from lean cuisine. Free tasting plate 😀 i was surprised that this was very tasty!

beef stew and mash from lean cuisine as well. The beef is very tender but the mash wasn’t very good.

Free wine also from the lean cuisine stand. Don’t you just love the lean cuisine guys <3. This wine was lovely forgot to take note of the name.

Shiraz also from the lean cuisine stand. Not a fan of shiraz in general.

Beer that my friend got conned into buying..

grapefruit cocktail

Mushroom-ish dish from bavarian bier cafe.

Lovely salt and pepper prawns from wildfire. This is sooo delicious, was very tempted to go back for seconds.

More stalls

Found a lovely spot in hyde park to eat :).

Duck salad from Selah. Lovely textures ❤ and flavours.

Azuma Kushiyaki sugar hit 2009

Apologies for my camera, the lenses were acting really out of focus. I just realise the problem when i got home :(.

Glass of brown brothers orange muscat flora. Light and sweet.

The sugar hit is described as “East meets west dessert tasting plate”. I couldn’t think of a better description. We are presented with four desserts and two seaweed biscuits.

In front chocolate mousse, rich in flavour and very chocolatey.

Back, the vanilla cheesecake. This was so light and fluffy. It wasn’t very sweet but i prefer that 🙂

Front (bit hard to see) green tea cake and at the back ice cream with mochi (with syrup). I had a small bite of the green tea cake and left it untouched, I’m probably a bit biased as I’m not fond of any thing green tea flavour except for the green tea itself lol. The icecream was tasty but the mochi I found a bit too chewy.

I have to say this is the best sugar hits I came across and also a great deal with 4 desserts. I will be returning to eat this again :). Highly recommended!

Gumshara Ramen

The new secret ramen place circling around in practically all food blogs! This is my second visit, this time I was hoping I could finish the ramen.

Pork spare rib ramen $13 with egg $1.50. The pork is flavoursome and very tender. Did I managed to finished it this time? the answer is still no. The next visit I have to go with the less thicker soup. (can ask on request) oh sigh 😦

Kevin orders the bbq pork ramen and manages to polish off the entire dish, soup included.
